All Along Her Waterline

Words & Music by Duncan Wells

As performed by Max MacDonald

He walked along her shore while the sun came up
a day when the young man was falling in love
sun goes down, young man's gone
following a promise from that low-down sun.

She remembers him and his fishing line snagged
rolled to his knees with an old sweat rag
tucked in a pocket while a bluebird sang
these are the memories she has saved.

All along her waterline shining
somewhere there's a place for him
but he wants to be in her arms again.

He remembers her from the moment they met
captured in a wrinkled black and white photograph
stuck between the pages of an old year book
the waters of love and his careless youth.

He remembers her like it wasn't that long
the wind blew way to the mountain beyond
that graced her sky so wide and grand
these are the memories he's always had.

All along her waterline shining
somewhere there's a place for him
but he wants to be in her arms again.

He works this day at a factory bench
thinks about her but then he can't forget
the waters of a woman that he left behind
his cup runs over as another day flies.

He sleeps tonight in a city away
with a wish and a promise from a long lost day
when he left his heart decided to stay
to gather all the memories he has saved.

All along her waterline shining
somewhere there's a place for him
but he wants to be in her arms again.

All along her waterline shining
somewhere there's a place for him
where she waits and always will remain
but she wants to be in his arms again
