Dirty Streets & Songs to Sing
Written & Performed by Duncan Wells

Sidewalks crowd for bargaining these city streets
gum wrappers fly and coppers keep the beat
this ugly joke that Jesus played on thee
upon a crucifix
a rolex on his wrist.

Oh, where'd you get those pretty things
that laquered shine
those colored strings
tell me what tomorrow brings
dirty streets and songs to sing.

Donald graduated from the seventh grade
all summer long he worked until he saved
enough to buy himself a hand grenade
down in the toy department
they got a great assortment.

Where'd you get those pretty things
that laquered shine
those colored strings
tell me what tomorrow brings
toys of war and songs to sing.

The rain returns with tears from sadder skies
of bitter acid while the hatchet flies
and here we are just passers passing by
while all the things we love
topple to a chain saw buzz.

Where'd you get those pretty things
that laquered shine
those colored strings
tell me what tomorrow brings
fallen trees and songs to sing.

So Sunday mornin' say a prayer for me
one for yourself and then we'll both be clean
then we can raise a glass and drink to anything
all the trinkets that we own
these battered hearts
and broken homes

So, where'd you get those pretty things
that laquered shine
those colored strings
tell me what tomorrow brings
unanswered prayers and songs to sing.
