Albert the elephant escaped from the carnival
hailed down a taxicab and drove it to the store
that's the day I found out something that I didn't know
Never let an elephant in through the door.

An elephant weighs thousands of pounds
with every step he takes he can bring your house down
it gets pretty scary when he starts to dance around
doing the elephant two-step.

My mother heard a knock knock on the door at two o'clock
answered it and opened up to let the knocker in
I guess I should have warned her not to open up the door
to let in an elephant's a big mistake.

Recess was over, teacher's at the blackboard
teaching arithmetic when suddenly she heard
knock knock upon the door, stomp stomp upon the floor
she opened up and Albert the elephant was there.

A clown from the carnival arrived at the school
with a half a bag of peanuts and a big piece of rope
he said he sorry 'bout the holes in the floor
tied a rope around the elephant and walked out the door.

Now the carnival is over, all the cages have been closed
Albert the elephant is happy to be home
he made an awful mess, but that's the way it goes
well, at least now everybody knows that...
