A Nice Pair Of Shoes

Well I was walking down the street on a warm afternoon
I was feeling kind of bored 'cos there was nothing much to do
I stopped at a store-front window with a sign
it said, "we sell shoes for a dollar ninety-nine
so, I walked right in, I had a jingle in my pocket
said, I'd like a pair of shoes to the man at the counter
he took out a box, he took the box-top off
and when I looked inside, I couldn't believe what I saw.

Wow wee, what a nice pair of shoes
polka dot lace
a tassel tied too
sparkles on the side
glitter orange and blue
headlights, side lights
do they ever glow bright
kind of like sneakers
kind of like boots
kind of like slippers that slide when you move
moon walk, foxtrot all the way to school,
wow wee, what a nice pair of shoes

So I took out my money counted nineteen dimes
a nickel and four pennies for a dollar ninety-nine
put the shoes on my feet, and I gave a little smile
to the shoe salesman, and he waved goodbye
now as I left the store I started walking down the street
I felt real special with those shoes on my feet
and everyone I met, they'd yell out to me
"Hey buddy!" and I'd say what
and everyone of those people would sing.

But when I got home, I noticed that the soles
of my brand new shoes had great big holes
I took them off and were my feet ever sore
so I picked up the phone and dialed the number of the shoe store
"Ring, ring, ring", till the salesman came
I told him what had happened, he said "Aww, what a shame!"
It's too late now, he said the shoes were all mine
and besides he said, "What did you expect for a dollar ninety-nine?"
