Teachers

To present this in-class safety education program from The Love & Safety Club, you need to purchase the song, I Have A Secret for $1.99 and download the accompanying coloring page.  Both can be found in the left hand menu of this page. Print off enough coloring pages for every child in your classroom. You will also need a flip chart or, if you prefer, a classroom whiteboard or chalkboard.

The Presentation

The presentation begins by asking the children to listen to the song you are about to play for them, and to pay attention to the words and the message in the song. Please note that the four questions below are suggestions only. Teachers and presenters can choose to ask any questions they feel are appropriate and that might generate responses and a positive discussion.

  • Ask the children what the song was about
  • What is difference between a good secret and a bad secret?
  • Who did the singer say we should tell  our bad secrets to?
  • Who else do you think we could tell our bad secrets to?

On the flip chart, make a list of all the responses given by the children concerning who they could tell their bad secrets to.

The Coloring Page

Play the song again while passing out the coloring pages. When you look at the coloring page you will see a little girl whispering a secret in her teacher's ear. Above the little girls head is a word balloon. Before the coloring begins, (or after if you prefer) ask the children to write the secret they think the little girl is telling, in the word balloon.

Closing Questions

When the coloring exercise is completed and all children have settled back to their seats engage them in a discussion about bad secrets. Ask them what they have learned from the lesson. Let them speak.

And if there is any extra time, ask the children if they would like to hear the song again.
